I am an experienced screenwriter and award winning director.
I conceived and co-wrote the original screenplay for the Disney animated movie ‘Gnomeo & Juliet’ starring James McAvoy, Emily Blunt, Jason Statham and Michael Caine, with music by Elton John. It took around $200 million at the worldwide box office and I was nominated for an ‘Annie’ (the animation industry’s most prestigious award) for Best Writer.
I conceived and co-wrote the original screenplay ‘Mike Bassett: England Manager’ starring Ricky Tomlinson and Amanda Redman. It was the top grossing British low budget film at the UK box office in the year of its release and was recently voted the best football film (fiction) of all time by 4-4-2 Magazine. Reviews include: “This sports satire is arguably the best football film ever made, and unarguably the funniest.” Radio Times. “Packed with laughs from end to end – a winner” People. “Hilarious” The Sun.
The movie spawned the ITV1 sitcom spin off ‘Mike Bassett: Manager’ which I co-wrote and exec produced. It averaged over 3 million viewers per week. Reviews include: “Mike Bassett: Manager is an extremely funny spin off series.” The Times. “This is a very rare thing indeed in the TV world – an ITV sitcom that is actually Premier League funny….Pick of the Week.” News of The World. “The effortlessly gobby Tomlinson’s in his element with a script that rattles along with dry one liners.” The Sunday Telegraph. “This is turning into a gem…but the real stars are the writers”. Radio Times.
I conceived and co-wrote the screenplay for the feature ‘The Queen’s Corgi’ released in 2019, starring Jack Whitehall, Ray Winstone, Julie Walters and Sheridan Smith. It has taken nearly $50 million at the worldwide box office so far, breaking records for an independent European animation movie in several countries including France, Russia and the Netherlands, where it was No 1 at the box office.
Over the years I have written for most US film studios including Fox, Dreamworks, Disney and Paramount and for many of the main UK production companies like Working Title, BBC Films and Aardman Animation.
I have directed three multi-award winning shorts: ‘Green Monkey’, ‘Man’s Best Friend’ and ‘Rise of the Appliances’, the feature version of which, I am currently attached to direct.
I am a full BAFTA and WGA member and am represented by Gemma Hirst (GHA) in the UK and Charlie Ferraro (UTA) in the US.
